What is life coaching?

Coaching is one of the most powerful methods of developing people’s skills and abilities, and of boosting performance. It helps to deal with issues and challenges before they become major problems. A coaching session will typically take place as a conversation between the coach and the coachee (person being coached), and it focuses on helping the coachee discover answers for themselves.

By some it is considered to be a modern form of counselling, by others an expensive agony aunt and by many a bi-product of the American attitude to chasing the proverbial dream. The truth couldn’t be more different.

Life coaching has grown to be a hugely successful form of talking therapy, to the extent that it has helped turn people’s lives around. It is defined as the process of helping people identify and achieve personal goals.

Business coaching provides positive support, feedback and advice on an individual or group basis to improve personal effectiveness in the business setting. Business coaching is also called executive coaching, corporate coaching or leadership coaching.

  • What is a life coach?

  • What can I be coached in?

    Life coaching covers virtually every aspect of your personal and professional life and aims to get you from where you are to where you want to be.

  • How is coaching different from counselling?

    Personal coaching tends to be forward-looking, whereas counselling tends to focus on assessing past influences. It is targeted and goal-orientated whereas counselling entails a more general, broad-based exploration. The focus in life coaching is on improving and realising potential, rather than healing or understanding. Peak performance coaching is typically, but not always, short-term. Clients tend to book in blocks of six or twelve sessions. Counselling is often more open-ended.

  • Can you guarantee a result?

    A life coach will not guarantee you a specific result as it is ultimately down to you and your motivation and commitment to practice and develop and I would advise you to avoid services from anyone promising you the impossible. I am here to work with you to achieve what you want, not to do it for you.

  • Can you help with motivation?

    If you suffer from a lack of motivation we will work together to understand how you look at yourself and the rest of the world in order to develop a more positive thought process which will enable you to achieve your goals.It is the alteration of the thought process combined with the desire to change and be challenged that will allow you to ultimately achieve your goals.

  • What can I expect?

    The first life coaching session will look to gain an overall perspective of your life before identifying which areas you seek to improve or you are currently unhappy with. We will agree on goals which during sessions will be broken down into achievable objectives.

  • Where do the life coaching sessions take place?

    My life coaching sessions are typically carried out face to face in London, however, I also offer Skype and telephone coaching in case you are not based in London or travel regularly.

  • How many sessions would I need?

    It depends on what you are trying to achieve, how driven you are and the speed at which you learn new knowledge. I encourage my clients to do as much as they can and I do not prolong the coaching.Some clients prefer a “block of sessions” where we meet every week for a given period of time. During each session we review progress, discuss opportunities and agree next steps and goals. Where applicable, I always provide reading materials to guide you in between sessions and add to your development. I would work with you to estimate how many sessions do we think would be required and what the best options are for you.Other clients prefer a long-term relationship to ensure they do not go off track and have me as a friend who they will call every two months for a longer term progress review most often regarding their career or personal relationships.
